This was a military medical report authored by [[Abelard Carmichael|Dr. Abelard Carmichael]] based on his observations of patient recovery during the United States Civil War. In the report, Carmichael observed that soldiers coming from farms producing meat recovered, on average, faster and more successfully than soldiers coming from crop farms. He recommended that soldier's rations be shifted to primarily meat proteins. The reports findings were rejected multiple times leading to Dr. Carmichael's breakdown and dismissal from the army for striking a superior officer with an openhanded slap to the face.
