The State of Arkansas was the thirty-fourth state admitted to the United States. It was originally settled by reformed sea pirates after their original settlement in Kansas failed. Originally an unruly and lawless state, Arkansas made its transformation into a modern state of the Republic with the ascendancy of the brutal but forward-looking governor Redbeard the Black. Today, Arkansas is a hot destination for tourists interested in historic pirate culture, artifacts, and architecture. The primary exports of Arkansas are scimitars, beard grooming equipment, and saltwater taffy.
Early History
The Louisiana Purchase
Covered heavily in mist, the area later to be known as Arkansas was called the Shadow Place. It was believed to be a large dark chasm which either had no bottom or was an entrance to Hades. It was drawn as an amorphous black splotch on maps.
Initial Exploration
After purchasing the Louisiana territory, the United States government commissioned two explorers to explore the Shadow Place to verify the existence of the chasm. When it was discovered that the territory simply contained more land, it was renamed the Shadow Territories.
Relocation of Pirates
The military intervened in Kansas and forced these Land Pirates to surrender. They were placed in a temporary camp until it was decided they would be moved to the recently discovered Shadow Territories. The state of Arkansas got its name when the large group of land pirates were forcibly resettled into an unnamed territory. When the leader of the pirates, Peg Leg Bluebeard, was asked what he wished to name the pirates' new home, he lamented "Arrrgh! Kansas!", expressing dismay at being removed from his homeland. This was misunderstood by the territorial administrator, General Fargas, and thus the state of 'Arkansas' was born.
