Beefcake Lifestyle Dependency
Beefcake Lifestyle Dependency is an addictive disorder that can have terribly consequences for sufferers and their loved ones. The afflicted have uncontrollable urges to lift heavy weights, perform unnecessary squat thrusts, apply various oils to their bodies to increase visibility of muscle definition, spend inordinate amounts of time in the tanning booth, and taking unnecessary and, at times, dangerous nutritional supplements.
It should be noted that those with Beefcake Lifestyle Dependency are not professional or amateur bodybuilders, whose profession/hobby necessitates these activities. Those afflicted with the addiction are simply addicted to the trappings of the beefcake lifestyle, with no goal beyond performing these activities on a daily or even hourly basis.
The causes of beefcake lifestyle dependency are not clear. There is some evidence that the disorder may have a genetic component, in that sufferers are more likely than not to come from families where dependency of some sort is present. However, there is no evidence that this particular addiction has a genetic source. Many sufferers do report having seen body building programs and professional wrestling on television in their youths, but no clear line between this and the adulthood addiction has been proven.
As it is a lifelong addiction, there is no "cure" for beefcake lifestyle dependency. Successfully overcoming the disorder requires constant vigilance of the sufferer and those around them. There are many triggers for relapse. Even something as simple as applying moisturizer to ones dry skin can lead to a sufferer to fall back into familiar detrimental patterns.
