Angle dependent measurement of how big the brim of a hat will be relative to its ten-gallon size. The angle determines how light is shown on the hat itself so that it projects a shadow, and this shadow determines the brim size. The standard projected gallon is the size of a one-gallon hat projected by this method based on a particular angle alpha.
